From the moment Jazmin arrived, we knew she had a purpose, a destiny. When we lost her, we realised that her purpose was to help others. She was sent in order to educate the doctors so that one day they would be able to use the knowledge learned from her conditions to help other babies. If her being here helps just one baby to live, then she will have achieved her wish.
When we were at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, although they were fantastic, there were plenty of improvements needed in order to fully support the parents who wish to stay in hospital with their children.
All of these improvements and more have now been put into the new Children's Hospital Oxford. The architects and designers have thought of everything child and parent friendly and the new hospital is amazing. Every bay has a built in sofa bed for at least one parent to stay, the parents have their own sitting room and kitchen area and even a place to do the laundry. Reception desks have a lower area so the children can be involved with what is going on rather than be hidden behind a desk. Even the paint and colour scheme is fantastic. It truly is a remarkable place and will benefit many people in the years to come.
In order to honour our daughter and do something to help others at the same time it is now our mission to sponsor a single room near the nurses station for a patient who may need extra care. We will name this room after Jazmin as a permanent memorial to her short but incredible life.
We have only just started on this journey of fundraising and know it will be a long road, but we feel it is one we must go down. We are only in the very early stages of putting together ideas for our fundraising and would welcome any help or suggestions.
